Unintentionally MIA

This is Molly. This is how Molly looks when she knows she’s done something bad, like pooping in the house. She does it as soon as she sees us, before we even figure out she’s done something, so she gives herself away every time.

My point is, this is how I feel about the hiatus I unintentionally took from blogging. I didn’t plan to take almost a month off, but with moving, and just generally enjoying life and summer, combined with reaching my max space allotment with my free WordPress platform,  it just kinda happened. I’m in the midst of transferring to a self-hosted WordPress site, and should be up and running shortly, so my apologies if the site is down for a bit. But the good news is that I’ve been collecting some good content and projects that are just dying to be blogged about, so lots of good stuff will be coming. Thanks for sticking around!

Home Stretch

We’re almost there people! We’re into the home stretch! We are hoping, praying,  longing, yearning, wishing, demanding, that the house is finished this week. And things are looking promising, our contractor has promised us it will be finished for Friday.

To be completed before Friday:

  • the bathrooms have been tiled, they just need to be grouted & sealed.
  • Trim needs to be added everywhere.
  • Kitchen needs to be finished ( most of the cupboards and counter-top have been installed).
  • Unpack and put new appliances in place .
  • All plumbing has to be finished and fixtures added ( toilets, faucets, etc.)
  • figure out some way to finish the stairs ( we were going to do carpet, but cant  get anything installed for 10-14 days, which doesn’t work for us. if anyone has a good plan B idea, let’s hear it!)
  • final day of electrical work
  • Figure out a way to finish the step from kitchen down to living room
  • finish off the trapdoor & add handle
  • install interior doors
  • install small things like mirrors in bathroom, mailbox, new door handles & locks
  • paint exterior doors and install new windows in them
  • final city inspection
  • and probably a million other things we’re overlooking, but all to be followed by a massive cleaning sesh to get rid of all that plaster dust!

Cathedral Tango

The house is painted! ( mostly) and even better, when I walked in, bracing myself to hate it because the Cathedral Gray was wayy to dark and I should have known better, my first thought was “I love it!  totally unprompted. And I do love the color- its a great soft grey that is definitely not too dark. GO ME for picking paint colors!

The floors have also started to go in! The contractors got the downstairs bedrooms done with the laminate we’re doing the whole house in, Tango Autoclick in walnut ( please try to ignore the dusty footprints, there is still plaster dust everywhere):

And the powder room floor has been tiled( still needs to be grouted & sealed):IMG_0910 IMG_0909

For the bathroom floors, we chose a charcoal 12 x 24 tile:

The kitchen goes in next, so fingers crossed the carpenter actually comes when he’s supposed to instead of bailing on us!
