Today was supposed to be a great day. The day we had waited for… the first day of the rest of our lives.
Of course, this was not to be.
Silly us for thinking it would be.
Today we were supposed to have our home inspection with the city to approve all the new plumbing/ HVAC/ framing & structural work. Actually, it was supposed to be on Friday, but thanks to the blizzard it was rescheduled for today, bright and early. After the inspection, assuming everything went well with it, our contractors could begin closing up all the guts of the house and we could finally start to make it pretty. We had hoped they would be able to do the vast majority of the dry-walling and flooring this week. And we would be well on our way to actually getting this house to a point that we could actually live in by the end of February/ beginning of March. Only a month after we had originally hoped. We went and saw the kitchen builder yesterday and got everything picked out ( no Ikea kitchen for us! White Shaker-style cupboards with nice crown moldings and a dark grey Corian counter top, all custom built for wayy less than Ikea!) and instillation date set for March 2. Then after that it’s really just all details… like toilets and light fixtures and such.
And then the inspector didn’t show up.
I called the city. We had been under the impression the inspection was scheduled for 6:30 a.m., and the inspector was going to call Jon on his way over. Jon waited until 7:30 a.m., then had to leave to to get to work, no sign of the inspector. The lady at the city said she had it in her book as “9 a.m. or before”.
BIG difference between 6:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. Not sure how those wires got crossed, but crossed they did.
So now we wait again… and we had such big plans, feeling like everything was finally starting to come together, we could see the light at the end of the tunnel. Hopefully they’ll reschedule right quick and we can keep this train moving.
